An e-commerce site, blog site, or corporate website with many pages or categories: Which one do you have? We would like to introduce you to a new generation structure that facilitates the navigation of both search engine bots and users for reaching site functions: Breadcrumbs.
Breadcrumbs are actually a kind of secondary navigation scheme. This diagram shows the location of a user’s page in a hierarchical manner throughout the website. This is a facilitating factor for understanding the positions of the pages on the site, the relationships between these pages, and for moving back and forth during navigation.
As Seorative, we professionally add these structures, which are life-saving for user experience in e-commerce sites, to your site and help you get strong UX scores. With the additional optimizations we make, it is possible to maximize both the UX and the crawlability values of your site. Before you contact us about our service, take a look at the content!

This type of navigation creates a categorical hierarchical order, usually somewhere in the top right of the current page. For example, if the page you are on is blog content and this content is called “What is breadcrumb?”, you can see a navigation scheme like this:
Blog > UX > UX for eCommerce Sites > What is Breadcrumb?
The first word in the above order represents the parent category to which all other digits belong, and the others represent the child categories. In this way, it is understood where the current location of the page is on the site map.
Of course, note that it is only an example of a ‘’location breadcrumb. However, there are different types of breadcrumbs.
Three types of breadcrumb navigation are as follows:
- Location Breadcrumb: These are schemas that show where any page on your website is in the sitemap. The example we gave in the title above refers exactly to the location crumb.
- Path Breadcrumb: They are breadcrumb structures that show users the path used to go to the relevant page. This structure is dynamically created and shows which specific pages the user has passed through to reach the relevant page. Because there can be more than one way to reach a web page, the path breadcrumb reflects one’s unique browsing experience.
- Attribution-based breadcrumbs: What these types of breadcrumbs do is not show the pages that the user browses until they reach the current page. Rather than showing where the page is, attribution-based breadcrumbs are structures that show the natüre/ features / categorical meaning of the pages passed. Let’s take a small example of this structure:
- Home > Research > Chevrolet > Impala > 2013
As you can see, a hierarchy scheme has been created according to the product’s feature on the current page.
The main benefits in the Breadcrumb SEO relationship can be listed as follows:
- Your visitors better understand where they are on your website and navigate more easily, which lowers bounce rates.
- Breadcrumb also allows an internal linking to be created on each page. This strengthens the page authorities.
- Breadcrumbs automatically contain anchor texts. This gives various messages to search engine bots about which searches your site is related to.
- Schema or Structured Data integrations allow Googlebots to detect and feature breadcrumbs.
Google SERP and Breadcrumb
Google has started showing breadcrumbs in SERP with its latest updates. The breadcrumb structure, which is shown in featured content at the top of the SERP, is a frequently encountered detail, especially in informational search queries.
So, what do you need to do to make your site stand out with breadcrumbs on SERPs? Let’s say it right now: Integrate your site into the Google Structured Data layout and tell Googlebots what breadcrumbs areas are with a clean code. It’s that simple!
